Job Description
Delivers routine respiratory treatments and continuous respiratory therapy including aerosol therapy, lung expansion therapy, oxygen therapy, and bronchial hygiene.
Maintains patient safety and monitors, instructs, and coaches patients before, during, and after treatment delivery.
Prevents and/or resolves untoward side effects and adjusts therapies according to protocol and documented clinical criteria.
Reevaluates patient/ventilator interface a minimum of every four hours, responds to alarms, and troubleshoots as needed.
Establishes weaning readiness and facilitates the weaning process, adjusting ventilator settings in accordance with patient progress.
Determines or guides the determination of ventilator mode and settings.
Performs mechanical ventilation, ensuring the effectiveness of therapist assessment and reassessment by monitoring patient progress.
Draws and analyzes arterial and capillary blood gases, places arterial lines, and makes or recommends changes in respiratory management according to blood gas results.
Recommends changes in respiratory plan of care according to documented medical necessity and within established protocols.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Patient care skills to care for neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient populations are required.

Education
- Field Of Study: Must be a graduate of an approved respiratory care program
- Education Level: Education Associate
Work Experience
