About the Role

The Registered Radiological (X-Ray) Technologist performs radiology activities at a technical level with minimal supervision, securing radiology studies to assist physicians in making correct diagnoses. This role involves careful handling and operation of radiology equipment, reporting maintenance needs, and ensuring high-quality imaging. The technologist must demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply professional skills to patients of all ages, working under general supervision following established radiology policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform radiology studies ordered by physicians to assist in diagnosis.
• Operate and maintain radiology equipment and supplies properly.
• Report equipment maintenance needs for assigned areas.
• Ensure high-quality imaging, recognizing the potential serious consequences of poor film quality.
• Demonstrate clinical judgment and professional skills for a diverse patient population.
• Adhere to established radiology policies and procedures.
• Participate in rotating shifts, including call, holiday, and hurricane teams.

Requirements

• Graduation from a two-year approved School of X-ray Technology (college work desired but not required).
• Current registration as a Radiologic Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• Licensed by the Mississippi State Department of Health.
• BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
• Completion of de-escalation training by the end of orientation (90 days).
• Maintain a minimum of 24 ECE points every two years as required by ARRT.
• Prior experience desired but not required.

• Proficiency in using computers, MS Outlook, Word, and office technology (e.g., telephone, fax).
• Ability to multi-task in complex situations and meet deadlines.

• Ability to work extended periods without undue fatigue.

Physical Demands

• Moderately active work involving frequent movement within the office, facility, or travel to other SRHS locations.
• Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects, including the human body, with negligible force.
• Exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues, which may carry infectious disease risks.
• Repetitive motions, such as wrist, hand, or finger movements while operating equipment (e.g., keyboard).
• Ability to perceive sound at normal speaking levels and make fine auditory discriminations.
• Close visual acuity to shift focus between computer monitors and printed materials.
• Ability to work assigned schedules, including off days, shifts, weekends, and potential changes based on hospital needs.

Schedule

• PRN (as needed) with rotating shifts.
• Includes call, holiday, and hurricane team rotations.
