Registered Radiation Therapist - as-needed
About the role
At Meritus Health, Registered Radiation Therapists play an essential role in delivering safe, precise, compassionate radiation therapy to patients receiving cancer treatment. Working under the direction of a Radiation Oncologist and with the support of the radiation oncology team, you’ll combine technical expertise with patient-centered care to help ensure every treatment is delivered accurately and safely.
Responsibilities
- Cook up activities for patient simulations to support timely, precise treatment planning and treatment delivery.
- Organize new patient rounds and communicate treatment- and simulation-related information.
- Prepare and assist patients receiving intracavitary or interstitial implants.
- Prepare the HDR treatment room and ensure required equipment and monitoring systems are ready.
- Verify treatment parameters and maintain accurate treatment documentation.
- Execute radiation treatment prescriptions with accuracy and close attention to detail.
- Position patients and align treatment equipment according to the prescribed treatment plan.
- Follow radiation safety rules and regulations established by Meritus Medical Center, the State of Maryland, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
- Clearly identify patients, explain procedures, and confirm patient understanding of their treatment.
- Aid patients with positioning while maintaining their comfort, privacy, and audiovisual contact during treatment.
- Assess patients’ physiologic condition and communicate changes to Oncology Nurses and/or the Radiation Oncologist.
- Complete required medical center and physician billing accurately and use Meditech and VARIS systems.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate degree in Radiologic Technology (or equivalent) plus completion of a 12-month specialized Radiation Therapy training program, or an associate degree in Radiation Therapy Technology (or equivalent).
- ARRT certification as a Radiation Therapist, or eligibility for ARRT certification within 90 days of hire.
- Maryland licensure as a Radiation Therapist.
- Current BLS/CPR certification in compliance with policy.
- One year of Radiation Therapist experience is preferred.
