Responsibilities
- Room patients, properly connect sensors, monitor camera and equipment measuring data such as heart rate, brain waves, muscle activity, and body function.
- Notate position changes, patient movement, stages of sleep, snoring, patterns or anomalies in sleep.
- Monitor pulse oximetry, PAP titration, and vital signs; Score sleep stages and clinical events;
- Provide supplemental low flow oxygen and titration.
- Collect, analyze, and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs.
- Document all pertinent data on the patient medical record(s) so data can be used by the Sleep Doctor for analysis, diagnosis, and treatment plan development.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the differences in technique and treatment modalities as performed on patients of varying ages, including pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients.
- Properly remove sensors and educate patients in sleep health and next steps.
- May work with patients after sleep study to provide additional education and information in accordance with the Sleep Doctor’s treatment plan.
- Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.
- Inspect and test equipment to ensure that it is functioning safely and efficiently.
- Follows departmental equipment cleaning procedures.
- Treat patients and their support system with respect and dignity.
- Carefully coordinate and direct patient care to ensure patient’s needs are met and that hospital policy is followed.
- Regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
- Appropriately adapts assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accomplish the requirements of the position.
- Ability to travel to various locations within the DRH system.
Qualifications
- Ability to assess patient and patient needs.
- Basic computer skills with information technology associated with the position; Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills;
- Ability to remain flexible to quickly adapt to urgent situations.
- Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position.
- Ability to travel to various locations within the DRH system.
Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of AMA-approved school of Respiratory Care, Polysomnography Technician, Sleep Technology, or Sleep Medicine.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
- Certification by a nationally-recognized board (Registered Polysomnographic Technologist, RPSGT, or Board Registered Polysomnographic Sleep Technologist, BRPT).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; May have up to 30 days to obtain upon hire or transfer.
Required Testing
- Respirator and fit testing.
