About the role
The Western New York VA Medical Center seeks a Full-Time Registered Nurse - Utilization Management to join the Quality - Safety - and Value Team at the historic Buffalo VA Medical Center.
Responsibilities
- Delivers competent, evidence-based care to assigned clients while developing technical competencies.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to influence care outcomes through quality improvement processes and customer service programs.
- Collects, analyzes, and reports data; creates and provides provider education on admission and continued stay criteria and best clinical documentation practices.
- Assists in directing nursing education, orientation, competencies, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Conducts reviews on prospective, observation, admission, and continued stay patients; creates and provides education and guidance on utilization management practices.
- Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with other acute care team members.
Requirements
- Basic English language proficiency.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current full, active, and unrestricted registration as a professional nurse.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred; current Utilization Management experience preferred; Quality and improvement management experience preferred.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by an accrediting agency.
- Current full, active, and unrestricted registration as a professional nurse.
- Completion of a master's degree in nursing or a related field with a BSN preferred.
Skills
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in utilizing healthcare technology for documentation and care coordination.
- Ability to manage complex patient care scenarios.

Schedule
Full-Time Day Shift: Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM.

- Visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity.
- Potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing.
- Mechanical patient lifts provided.
- Exposure to infected patients and contaminated materials.
- Exposure to patients who are combative due to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders.
- Mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations and shifting priorities based on patient needs.
