Registered Nurse Tier 2 (Union) ER

About the role

The Registered Nurse is required to apply the nursing process based on psychological, biological, physical, and social sciences in respective departments. Collaboration with physicians and multidisciplinary team members is essential. The RN provides physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families, supervises assigned team members and students, administers medications, performs EKGs, and participates in discharge planning.

Responsibilities

• Completes patient assessments, formulates and implements a plan of care, evaluates and adjusts the plan of care using critical thinking skills.
• Performs nursing acts authorized or limited by the board, consistent with American Nurses’ Association standards or nationally recognized organizations.
• Carefully counsels, teaches, promotes health, uses the teach-back method to confirm understanding.
• Administers medication, IV therapy, and treatments as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
• Supervises, delegates, and follows through with other personnel in nursing care activities.
• Mentors and precepts students and orient new staff as assigned.
• Reports pertinent information up the chain of command.
• Participates on various teams, committees, or performance improvement initiatives.
• Ensures a safe and secure environment for patients, coworkers, and self.
• Serves as a patient advocate and escalates patient-related concerns promptly.
• Timely documents pertinent findings in the medical record.
• Absorbs patients in ADLs and functions as an active team member.
• Assumes responsibility for personnel professional development.
• Utilizes effective communication skills and active listening, exhibits compassion and empathy, practices hands-off communication using SBAR, performs bedside shift reporting using SBAR (unless contradicted).
• Functions as a positive influence, role model, adheres to professional code of conduct, respects patient dignity and confidentiality.
• Performs other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Required: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
• Up to 1 year of acute care nursing experience preferred, with relevant experience in specific departments.
• Experience with Electronic Health Record preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with providers at all levels essential.
• Demonstrated ability to follow direction and facilitate a positive work environment.
• Exhibits critical thinking skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to pass medication exam.
• Completion of hospital-approved training program and demonstrated competence in emergency care procedures.
• Moderate sedation completion, preferred.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, preferred.
• NIH Stroke Certification, preferred.
• Advanced Dysrhythmia/EKG certification, preferred.
• Rural Trauma Team Development course, preferred.
• Emergency Nurse Pediatric course, preferred.
