Registered Nurse - Telemetry - Full Time, Nights

Earn up to a $25,000 sign-on bonus as a Registered Nurse (RN) in our Telemetry Unit at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center in Cortland, NY. This full-time night shift position offers three 12-hour shifts per week in a supportive, low patient-ratio environment.

About the Role

Guthrie Cortland Medical Center (GCMC) is seeking a compassionate and skilled RN to join our Telemetry Unit. The Telemetry Unit (2S) specializes in cardiac, respiratory, wound care, and other acute needs, staffed by RNs and LPNs.

Responsibilities

• Deliver patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Direct and guide patient teaching and ancillary personnel activities while maintaining professional nursing standards.
• Adhere to GCMC’s Compliance Standards, including Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy.
• Stay updated on federal, state, and GCMC regulations, laws, and policies.
• Perform patient assessments and document accurately and timely per nursing and department policies.
• Monitor patient vital signs, recognize changes in condition, and escalate concerns appropriately.
• Administer medications, IV fluids, and blood products safely, following hospital policies (e.g., e-Mar, barcoding, scanning).
• Assess and address patient and family educational needs, documenting and evaluating understanding.
• Contribute to discharge planning, ensuring safe transitions and follow-up care.
• Assist providers with procedures and treatments, using SBAR for communication.
• Demonstrate safe and effective use of equipment (e.g., IV pumps, patient lifts).
• Perform nursing treatments and procedures competently, including hourly rounds and whiteboard communication.
• Participate in emergency preparedness drills (e.g., Code Blue, Green, Pink, Orange, White, Silver).
• Document patient care activities accurately and in real-time per hospital policy.
• Promote professional nursing through committee participation, continuing education, and quality improvement activities.
• Follow infection control policies, including PPE use, hand hygiene, and isolation procedures.
• Develop and update individualized patient care plans, documenting interventions each shift.
• Support clinical learning experiences for orientees, staff, and students as a preceptor.
• Ensure safe patient handoffs using SBAR and interdisciplinary communication tools (e.g., Ticket to Ride).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Current NYS license as a registered professional nurse.
• Current BLS-CPR certification (or obtained within the first 30 days of employment).
• For specialty units (e.g., Maternity, ICU):
  • Maternity: Neonatal Resuscitation Certification within 6 months of employment.
  • ICU: ACLS within 6 months of hire.
• At least 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience preferred for specialty units.
