Registered Nurse Surgical Intermediate Part Time Nights

About the role

Part-time nights position with hours from 7:00 pm to 7:30 am and rotating weekends. The 26-bed unit provides treatment, care, and service to adult patients with acute medical, surgical, and cardiac conditions, specializing in complicated surgeries. Patient population includes esophagectomies, whipples, surgical-oncology cases, high-volume liposuction, multi-level spinal fusions, and vascular cases. The unit also accepts surgical patients requiring medication drips not appropriate for the medical-surgical inpatient unit, as well as medical step-down and overflow patients to enhance hospital throughput.

Responsibilities

  • Collects and analyzes patient data, identifies expected outcomes, develops and implements individualized plans, coordinates care delivery, and evaluates progress toward outcomes.
  • Directs care and determines appropriate utilization of assistants providing direct patient care.
  • Collaborates with patients, families, physicians, and ancillary staff.
  • Creates documented plans focused on outcomes and decisions related to care and delivery of services, indicating communications with patients, families, and others.
  • Participates in shared governance, committee work, and unit projects.
  • Evaluates and documents patient responses to nursing interventions in the health record and individualizes the plan of care based on evaluation findings.
  • Utilizes the best available evidence, including research findings, to guide practice decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with commitment to obtain a BSN from an accredited program within three years of first day of employment in clinical nurse role.
  • Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others.
  • Strong analytic abilities.

Preferred: Experience in Stepdown units.
