About the role

This position involves providing comprehensive nursing care to surgical patients, focusing on patient-centered care, communication, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a multi-disciplinary plan of care aligned with nursing problem care sets and clinical practice guidelines.
  • Assess and educate patients on their health status, treatment plans, and self-care techniques.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare providers to create discharge plans and ensure continuity of care.
  • Administer medications, perform therapeutic procedures, and monitor patient responses to interventions.
  • Initiate and document interventions to prevent and manage patient complications such as falls, skin breakdown, and VTE.
  • Monitor vital signs, laboratory results, and patient pain levels, reporting significant changes to healthcare providers.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to address concerns and provide support.
  • Ensure compliance with patient confidentiality and safety protocols, including the use of restraints and universal precautions.
  • Evaluate own performance and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Must have a current Registered Nurse license from the Michigan Board of Nursing and be certified as a BLS provider by the American Heart Association.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 to 9 months of on-the-job experience in a surgical setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of nursing best practices and patient care standards.
