About the Role

Provide direct care to residents as needed in accordance with care plans, applicable policies, procedures, and guidelines. Supervise daily nursing activities performed by Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), Medication Assistants Certified (MAC), and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA).

Responsibilities

  • Direct the day-to-day nursing functions of LPNs, MACs, and CNAs on designated nursing units during the assigned shift, ensuring care is rendered according to the resident’s plan of care and facility policy, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Provide resident care, including assessments, care planning, treatments, medications, interventions, communications, and other activities according to resident care plans and physician orders.
  • Document residents’ responses to care consistent with applicable policies, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Communicate with physicians, Director of Nursing Services, and other employees concerning resident status, new admissions, and shift activities.
  • Report residents’ conditions and shift occurrences to oncoming staff.
  • Make rounds with physicians as necessary and document care and treatment as indicated.
  • Review and transcribe physician orders according to policy and ensure orders are executed.
  • Meet with residents and/or family members as necessary and report problem areas to the Supervisor.
  • Complete medication pass audits, count medications as assigned, and report discrepancies to the Director of Nursing/Assistant Director of Nursing.
  • Complete forms, communication records, and reports as required.
  • Coordinate resident activities with other staff members and departments, and inform staff of new resident admissions.
  • Report all discrepancies, problems, and issues regarding resident care to the Director of Nursing/Assistant Director of Nursing.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Alabama.
  • One (1) year of experience in a skilled nursing facility preferred.
  • Current, unencumbered RN license in the state of Alabama.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Computer skills and ability to become proficient with appropriate software.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move about intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Ability to reach, bend, and/or stoop intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Ability to see and hear or use prosthetics to enable these senses to function adequately.
  • Ability to push, pull, or move a minimum of 100 pounds utilizing proper body mechanics and assistance.
  • Ability to walk/stand 75% of the day.
  • Ability to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
