About the Role

The RN Supervisor provides plans, coordinates, and manages nursing care, nursing services, and health education to nursing home residents. The RN cares for residents under the direction and supervision of the Director of Nursing. This position requires patience, compassion, and a desire to care for the frail elderly in a gentle and empathetic manner. Located in Maryland Heights, MO.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises nursing care provided by nursing assistants and others for whom they are administratively or professionally responsible.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
  • Plans, assigns, and directs work of nursing team members (CNAs/CMTs/etc.).
  • Prepares work assignment sheets, considering resident safety, educational preparation, experience, knowledge, and ability of assigned staff.
  • Reports staff shortages to nursing management.
  • Assists in preparing performance evaluations, understanding their impact on tenure and wage increases.
  • Participates in and communicates employee actions that may result in reward or discipline.
  • Schedules and adjusts lunch and rest breaks according to resident needs and labor laws.
  • Receives and helps resolve employee complaints.
  • Monitors and corrects job performance of employees.
  • Coordinates nursing care, ensuring all residents are assigned a nurse aide capable of providing appropriate care.
  • Provides safe and accurate medication-related interventions.
  • Administers and documents medications and treatments according to resident schedules and standards.
  • Provides treatments per physician orders, including wound care, urinary catheterization, oxygen care, and tracheostomy care.
  • Orders and receives medications from the pharmacy.
  • Conducts accurate accounting of narcotics and manages medication cart/room keys.
  • Responds promptly to resident requests for pain intervention and documents accordingly.
  • Transcribes and coordinates implementation of physician orders.
  • Performs nursing assessments and notifies physicians of status changes.
  • Utilizes the INTERACT program to avoid unplanned hospital discharges.
  • Develops and implements care plans based on assessments.
  • Checks emergency equipment and medication kits.
  • Follows facility policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Current state license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Current CPR certification; additional nursing specialty certification desired.
  • Knowledge of basic nursing practice with an interest in gerontological nursing.
  • Preferred: 2 years’ experience in a long-term care setting.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with Electronic Medical Records preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from diverse groups.
  • Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret technical journals and manage abstract and concrete variables.
