About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides excellent, clinically competent patient care by utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The RN effectively interacts with patients, significant others, and other healthcare team members while maintaining standards of professional nursing. The primary focus is to ensure every patient receives quality care and services through the efficient use of resources, within the scope and standards of nursing as defined by the American Nurses Association and the Nurse Practice Act of Virginia.

As a member of the healthcare team, the RN makes decisions and performs services in the best interest of the patient, contributing positively to the patient's experience and the success of the team by prioritizing patient and team needs above individual needs.

Responsibilities

Completes a comprehensive nursing assessment based on admission nursing history and appropriate standard of care/protocol.
Collects and interprets available data to make appropriate nursing diagnoses.
Initiates and updates the standard of care within established time frames.
Plans, provides, and documents individual patient/family teaching and evaluates understanding.
Initiates and implements a discharge plan upon admission and throughout hospitalization.
Consults and informs the Clinical Coordinator and Charge Nurse of unit activities, needs, and problems.
Organizes and reprioritizes work based on staff needs, patient needs, available resources, and unit requirements.
Demonstrates theoretical knowledge, critical thinking, and efficient prioritization of patient needs.
Safely administers medication and accurately verifies orders.
Demonstrates competence in patient care areas and actively solicits feedback from patients and visitors.
Functions independently with most procedures/protocols and assists physicians as needed.
Recognizes limitations and seeks appropriate assistance when needed.
Demonstrates ability to respond to emergency situations.
Documents patient care per hospital policy and provides a safe environment for patients and visitors.
Contributes to the reduction of infections and adheres to infection control guidelines.
Participates in quality improvement activities within the unit.
Supervises LPNs and UAPs when assigned; reviews data collection and implements/modifies the plan of care.
Ensures compliance with policies and procedures.
Effectively communicates the vision, mission, and goals of Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, including hospital and unit-specific dashboards.
Creates a culture that rewards cooperation, teamwork, and collective problem-solving.
Serves as a role model for professional practice and assesses team members' clinical competency.
Attends required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services.
Demonstrates commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care.

Requirements

Must be a Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Virginia or a compact state.
Must obtain BLS certification within 90 days of employment.

Qualifications

Preferred Education: BSN
Preferred Experience: Minimum of 1 year in an acute care setting; new graduates are welcome to apply.
