JOB SUMMARY
Promotes and restores patients' health by completing the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; supervising assigned team members.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Uses nursing process as a framework to deliver care:
- Assesses patient condition on admission and at regular intervals during assigned shift
- Collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary team members
- Delegates basic patient care needs to assistive personnel
- Sets goals to organize assignment
- Collaborates with patients and their families on the patient’s desired goals
- Audits aggregate performance in order to improve systems that support patient care
- Establishes a compassionate environment:
- Provides emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families
- Promotes patient's independence:
- Teaches patient, friends, and family to understand condition, medications, safety, and self-care skills
- Answers questions
- Maintains quality of care:
- Adheres to therapeutic standards
- Makes or recommends necessary adjustments
- Follows hospital and nursing division's philosophies and standards of care
- Maintains safe and clean working environment:
- Complies with procedures, rules, and regulations for safety and infection control
- Keeps patient rooms in a neat and orderly fashion
- Cleans assigned equipment or areas according to procedure
- Adheres to medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations
- Respects patients and the organization:
- Recognizes patient rights, patient privacy
- Keeps information confidential and responds to requests using tact and diplomacy
- Maintains operation of equipment:
- Completes preventive maintenance requirements
- Follows manufacturer's instructions
- Troubleshoots malfunctions
- Processes requisitions for repair
- Maintains equipment inventories
- Evaluates new equipment and techniques
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge:
- Attends educational workshops
- Reviews professional publications
- Establishes personal networks
- Participates in professional societies
- Maintains current BLS and ACLS affirmations
- Attends required annual in-services
- Documents professional development on associate education record
- Conducts annual learning session in collaboration with the patient care specialist

- Checks stock to determine inventory level
- Anticipates needed supplies and places and expedites orders for supplies
- Verifies receipt of supplies
- Uses equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results

QUALIFICATIONS

- Education:
- Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma required
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
- Work Experience:
- Previous acute care experience preferred
- Licenses / Certifications:
- Registered Nurse license required
- Certification in Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) preferred (must be acquired within 2 years of employment, 1750 hours in direct care of acutely/ critically ill patients, with 875 of those hours accrued in the most recent year preceding application).
- Basic Life Support / CPR, as a healthcare provider, per the American Heart Association required
- Must obtain ACLS within six (6) months of employment and then maintain certification throughout employment.
