Registered Nurse- SICU- Full Time, Day

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The facility includes the Knapp Cardiac Care Center, a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services such as women's imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. It operates a Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center, a Primary Stroke Center designated by the New York State Department of Health, and multiple outpatient sites including a wound care center, hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.

About the role

The successful candidate will execute professional nursing care in accordance with physician treatment plans to provide for the comfort and well-being of patients and their families. Responsibilities include assessing patient needs, planning and implementing treatment plans, observing and evaluating patient progress, and documenting pertinent observations. The role involves collaborating with the interdisciplinary health team to meet holistic patient needs, directing nursing care delivery by other team members, and participating in the orientation of new employees.

Responsibilities

• Collects patient health data by involving the patient, family, and other health care providers.
• Performs initial assessment based on patient's presentation and records relevant data on the nursing component of the Interdisciplinary Admission Assessment.
• Demonstrates awareness of special needs for each age group, culture, and patients with disabilities.
• Conducts ongoing assessments as established by department policy and as warranted by patient response.
• Incorporates discharge planning into the admission process.
• Analyzes assessment data to determine problem identification and expected outcomes individualized to the patient.
• Demonstrates ability to combine theoretical knowledge and clinical expertise to anticipate and plan for patient and family care needs.
• Identifies actual or potential problems, validating them with the patient, family, and other health care providers.
• Considers cultural, ethnic, and spiritual aspects of patient/family dynamics in care planning.

Requirements

• Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice acquired through completion of a two-year training at an accredited School of Nursing.
• Current New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse.
• BLS certification and de-escalation training.
• ACLS certification (required for ICU, Float pool, Emergency Department).
• TCAR Certification (required for SICU, PACU).
• For Emergency Department: PALS, TNCC (within first year).
• BLS, ACLS, PALS must be through AHA.

Qualifications

• BSN preferred.
• For ASU RN: 1 year of critical care experience preferred.
• PALS certification preferred.
• Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia (e.g., CAPA) preferred.
• 1 year of nursing experience in preoperative, perioperative, or post-anesthesia care preferred.
• Experience in patient assessment, education, and care planning for pre- and post-operative patients preferred.
• Prior experience in discharge planning and coordination of perioperative patients preferred.
• Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems preferred.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $106,916.04 - $138,356.04 annually. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. This range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
