Registered Nurse - SCI Albion (Multiple Vacancies)

About the role

Do you want to use your nursing expertise to support individuals with wide-ranging health needs in a secure facility? As a Registered Nurse with the Department of Corrections (DOC), you will provide essential treatment and guidance to help inmates maintain and improve their health at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Albion. This role allows you to build strong clinical skills through direct care and continuous learning. You will contribute to safe, effective, and patient-centered services every day.

Responsibilities

• Clinical Care: Assess inmate needs, administer medications, perform treatments, and support daily living activities
• Health Monitoring: Check vital signs, assist with examinations, and provide education and counseling
• Emergency Response: Deliver first aid, CPR, and other urgent care when needed
• Record Management: Complete reports, update electronic health records, and maintain controlled substance documentation
• Supply Preparation: Sterilize instruments and maintain adequate stock in treatment areas
• Team Communication: Share information during shift reports and notify staff of medical concerns

Qualifications

• Licensure: Active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania. Employees with a temporary practice permit must obtain full RN licensure within the one-year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
• Education: Graduation from a school of nursing approved by the State Board of Nursing. Applicants within 60 days of graduation are eligible to apply; at appointment, proof of a current PA temporary practice permit or RN license is required.
• Training: Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• Physical Ability: Must be able to perform essential job functions.
• Background & Compliance: Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
• Residency: PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• Examination: Completing the application and all supplemental questions serves as the exam for this position; no separate test center exam is required. Scores are based on the detailed information provided and are valid for this posting only.

Schedule

Full-time, 40 hours per week. The facility operates 24/7/365 with three shifts: 1st shift (6:00 AM–2:30 PM), 2nd shift (2:00 PM–10:30 PM), and 3rd shift (10:00 PM–6:30 AM). Work schedule is to be determined; alternative schedules may be available depending on operational needs. Telework is not an option for this position.

Pay

Selected candidates new to Commonwealth of Pennsylvania employment will start at an annual salary of $89,882.00 (before taxes).

Benefits

This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
