REGISTERED NURSE - SCHOOL

Duties & Responsibilities

• Maintain health records on each student and see that medical forms are updated.
• Administer all prescribed medications to students daily.
• Exercise professional judgment in dealing with health problems of the students.
• Administer emergency first aid, when necessary, completes accident forms, and recommends additional medical follow-up.
• Clock with School Secretary to confirm student’s absence (phone call, email, etc.).
• Act as main liaison with parents and prescribing physicians concerning the administration of medications.
• Maintain proper storage and security of all medications.
• Communicate with staff members about all student medical issues, such as allergies, seizures, etc.
• Order and dispense as needed first aid supplies, e.g., vinyl gloves, ice packs, band aids, etc.
• Implement communicable disease policy in the school, including monitoring, surveillance, and participating in disease prevention and outbreak management within the school.
• Develop and train staff that provides health services, including the administration of medication to students.

Education & Experience

• New York State License as a Registered Nurse. Associates degree required. BA preferred.
• Experience working with children.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to provide physical intervention when necessary and pass physical as per Agency requirement.
