REGISTERED NURSE (SAFETY)

Multiple positions available in Napa County. This is a full-time, 12-month limited-term role with the possibility of becoming permanent. State employees are subject to temporary salary reductions in exchange for Personal Leave Program (PLP) accruals effective July 1, 2025. New to state candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification.

About the Role

The Department of State Hospitals – Napa, Department of Medicine, and Ancillary Services is seeking Registered Nurses (Safety) for Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) and Recovery roles. The RN works in various clinic and non-clinic settings, assisting psychiatrists, anesthesiologists, and physicians with clinical examinations and ECT procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) and clinical examinations.
  • Order drugs and supplies for ECT/Surgical Clinic.
  • Maintain a sterile and safe environment in surgical and clinic areas.
  • Care for and maintain surgical instruments, dressings, supplies, and medical equipment.
  • Supervise patients and assist medical staff with pre- and post-operative nursing.
  • Review charts and consent forms pre-operatively for ECT/surgery procedures.
  • Observe and report patients’ progress pre- and post-procedures.
  • Provide peri-anesthesia treatment information to patients and unit staff.
  • Multitask and handle various responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Possession of the legal requirements to practice as a professional Registered Nurse in California.
  • List eligibility is required to apply for this position (separate from the job application process).
  • CPAN certification is desired but not required.

Pay

$9,510.00 - $11,335.00 per month. Salaries do not reflect the 3% reduction for PLP 2025.

Founded in 1875, Napa State Hospital is the only state hospital in Northern California for persons struggling with severe mental illness. Classified as a low to moderate security facility, the hospital treats up to 1,362 patients on a 138-acre campus.
