Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor - Per Diem
About the role
Absorbs responsibility for directing hospital-wide patient care activities and overseeing hospital operations on an assigned shift.
Responsibilities
- Ensures patient care is delivered in accordance with the ANA Scope and Standards of Care and Practice, Patient Bill of Rights and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.
- Safeguards patient care consistency with specialty-specific standards (e.g., Oncology Nurses Association, American Association of Critical Care Nurses).
- Supports Shared Governance model and facilitates staff participation.
- Cultivates an environment where personal and professional growth is expected.
- Maintains coordination of patient assessment, evaluation, and care to meet evolving needs.
- Maintains staff performance expectations by monitoring patient care activities through direct observation and patient-focused rounds.
- Serves as a clinical resource for staff. Mentors staff and participates in educational planning for identified needs. Presents programs to staff as necessary.
- Demonstrates cost-effectiveness without compromising quality patient care by allocating resources (personnel, supplies, and equipment) based on census, activity, and acuity in collaboration with Unit Directors.
- Participates in department performance improvement program. Evaluates outcomes to determine priorities for improving systems and processes.
- Utilizes evidence-based practice and research to support clinical and leadership decisions.
- Investigates concerns of patients, visitors, and physicians and communicates to appropriate Unit Director.
- Communicates effectively with hospital administration on pertinent patient care and operational issues.
- Displays a commitment to leadership through participation at meetings, committees, and professional organizations both within the organization and in the broader nursing community.
- Employs a professional demeanor by remaining well-informed, listening with an open mind, and communicating in a highly professional manner.
- Self-motivated to pursue educational opportunities to enhance expertise in both clinical and leadership domains of practice.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing holding current New Jersey license.
- Required: Bachelor's Degree.
- Prioritizing Master's Degree.
Qualifications
- 4-6 years of experience.
- 3+ years of experience.
Skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Good organizational, leadership, and teamwork skills.
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
