Part-time, rotating shift in the Short Stay Unit at Trinity Health Ann Arbor.

About the role

The Short Stay Unit has 25 bays, 32 colleagues, and primarily supports adult patients (17+ years). The unit treats post-surgical and post-procedural patients, as well as infusion and transfusion patients. Medical and surgical patients with a variety of diagnoses are cared for, with an anticipated disposition within 24-48 hours. The Telemetry Monitor Unit, staffed by 28 colleagues, remotely monitors patients using continuous tele-visual monitoring to ensure patient safety. Staff in this unit have additional duties related to patient monitoring and equipment maintenance in the central station and on patient care units.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers and analyzes patient information
  • Develops, implements, evaluates, and revises an individualized plan of care
  • Uses teach-back methodology to educate patients and families
  • Actively seeks to prevent potential hospital-acquired conditions
  • Effectively communicates patient status, priority goals, and interventions during consultations, rounds, and handoffs
  • Follows all HIPAA policies and procedures
  • Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of St. Joseph Mercy Hospitals

Requirements

  • Graduation from a school of nursing that qualifies the graduate to sit for the NCLEX exam to become licensed as a Registered Nurse
  • BSN preferred; new hires after January 1, 2013 must have a BSN or agree in writing to obtain it within five years of hire or transfer to an RN role
  • Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • BLS certification
  • ACLS certification required for Float Pool, Cardiac/Cath Lab, AICU, and Emergency departments
  • Knowledge of nursing theory, practice, and age-specific needs
  • Interpersonal skills to initiate and maintain collegial relationships with coworkers and therapeutic relationships with patients and families
  • Critical thinking skills to perform principal duties and responsibilities
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when planning and performing professional nursing care

Experienced Canadian Registered Nurses are encouraged to apply. Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required.
