At St. John’s Hospital, our Surgery Admit and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (SAU/PACU) is dedicated to guiding patients through every step of their surgical experience—from pre-operative preparation to safe recovery and discharge home.

About the Role

The SAU/PACU provides comprehensive and specialized care in both pre-and post-operative care, including patient assessment, education, and recovery following anesthesia. Anesthesia nursing includes monitoring vital signs, pain control, airway status, other critical nursing skills and overall stability post anesthesia until patients are transferred or discharged home.

Responsibilities

• Affirms patient needs and identifies expected nursing outcomes.
• Collaborates with patient, family and other health team members to develop a nursing plan as part of an integrated, comprehensive plan of care.
• Develops an individualized plan based on age, social and cultural considerations, condition and other relevant needs.
• Evaluates care and patient response to interventions and expected outcomes.
• Collaborates and communicates effectively and respectfully with the patient, family and members of the health care team within and across care settings to promote partnership-based health care.
• Demonstrates the ability to advance care by utilizing standards, guidelines, care pathways and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes.
• Promotes a culture of evidence based practice (EBP).

Requirements

• Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)
• ACLS through American Heart Association
• MN Registered Nurse (RN) License
• RN PACU experience or 1 year experience critical care experience (ICU or Emergency Department)

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
• 1-2 years Perianesthesia experience preferred

Pay

An individual's pay rate within this range may be influenced by various factors, including FTE, skills, knowledge, educational background, and qualifying experience as specified in the contract.

Schedule

This is an evening position, 70 hours per pay period, 10 hour shifts (11am-9:30pm and 12:00 pm to 10:30pm) with weekends, holidays and call.
