About the role

We are seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in the Same Day Surgery department at our Downtown Milwaukee location. Our department has 20 patient bays and cares for a diverse population of outpatient procedures, including ortho, GYN, general, bariatric, robotic, urology, plastics, dental, and ECT patients, as well as IV therapy and pre-admission testing.

Our culture is collaborative, friendly, caring, and supportive, with a team of experienced nurses and aides. We have a Bariatric Center of Excellence and are a GYN Teaching Hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver individualized care using the nursing process—assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
  • Monitor and respond to changes in patient condition, mobilizing resources and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Promote patient safety by implementing risk-reduction strategies and reporting safety events promptly.
  • Educate patients and families, adapting teaching methods to meet unique learning needs and supporting readiness for discharge.
  • Coordinate care and discharge planning through an interdisciplinary approach, ensuring continuity across the healthcare continuum.
  • Lead and delegate effectively, fostering teamwork and supporting unlicensed personnel.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient experience and unit performance.
  • Maintain professional growth through ongoing education, competency completion, and participation in shared governance activities.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing.
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • 1-2 years of inpatient nursing experience in med/surg, ICU, ED, or periop.

We offer rotating staggered start times (0730–0830) and elective surgeries are scheduled from 0715–1700.
