Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients prior to surgery, have records ready for the CRNA and provider for consent.
- Safely initiate peripheral IV access, maintain lines, and administer pre-operative medications including IV antibiotics according to physician orders and infection control standards. Maintain drug counts with CRNAs and Managers.
- Safely transfer and accompany the patient from the pre-op holding area to the operating room.
- Assist anesthesia and the surgical team in safely positioning the patient on the operating table. Prepare the patient's operative site using approved skin-prepping protocols.
- Work in and around the sterile field. Open and distribute the few sterile supplies that are unable to be opened pre-operatively. Document times and meds given intraoperatively.
- Help with minor PAT requirements and patient questions. Assist with monitoring and communicating supply and anesthesia needs.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program; Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Licenses: Current, active, and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS, PALS or CNOR certification is a plus not required).
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical nursing experience, with previous experience in perioperative and procedural suites.
- Skills: Excellent IV starts, robust understanding of the perioperative area, critical thinking, adaptability, and a strong balance between communication and active listening to promote positive interactions with the team.
