Registered Nurse RN Progressive Care Unit PCU

About the role

Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona is a 700+ licensed-bed hospital recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of Phoenix’s Best Hospitals. The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a 36-bed unit providing continuous telemetry monitoring for patients with respiratory, renal, cardiac, alcohol/drug withdrawal, and infectious diagnoses. The unit utilizes state-of-the-art technology including da Vinci surgical robots and 3D cancer technology. PCU nurses work 3×12-hour shifts (7:00 am–7:30 pm) with weekend rotations and a $3/hour weekend shift differential.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document nursing care in accordance with organizational policies and professional standards.
• Account for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under direction.
• Utilize specialized knowledge and judgment to assess data and plan, provide, and evaluate care appropriate to the patient’s physical and developmental age.
• Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge-planning needs.
• Review patient history and physical with patient/family and complete within policy timeframe.
• Review diagnostics and laboratory data; report abnormal results to physicians and other caregivers.
• Formulate and revise a patient-centered plan of care, including discharge planning, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
• Implement the plan through direct care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the health care team.
• Delegate appropriately and provide nursing supervision for care delivered by other licensed nurses and personnel.
• Promote continuity of care by accurately communicating patient status to other caregivers.
• Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching; revise the plan as needed.
• Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation legibly and in accordance with policy.
• Provide evidence-based care and may participate in research activities within clinical practice.
• Participate in unit or facility shared leadership and contribute to excellent patient outcomes.
• Interact with staff at all levels, physicians, patients, families, external contacts, and clergy to support patient care.
• Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to address the human response of the patient and family to changes in health status.

Requirements

• Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice.
• BLS certification required.
• Relate throughout the interview process the experience, training, and education needed to perform the job.
• Experience in the clinical area for which applying is desired.
• Maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of practice as demonstrated through annual validations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Professional certification preferred.
• Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
