Registered Nurse (RN) - Peri-OP - PT Days

About the Role

The RN Clinical Periop Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized high-quality, safe patient care. Practice is guided by the WellStar Professional Practice Model, 5-Star Nursing, and evidence-based practice and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the WellStar Core Competencies. All RN Clinical Nurses are expected to uphold the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, the Scope of Practice, and the Code of Ethics Standards from the American Nurses Association.

As part of the patient services team, the role supports service excellence goals while upholding the voice of the patient and system policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Exemplary Practice and Outcomes:
  • Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation) using evidence-based practice.
  • Uses analytical and critical thinking to provide individualized care and coordinates care through effective partnerships.
  • Provides relationship-based, patient-centered care tailored to population-specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease).
  • Partners with patients and significant others using methods like bedside shift reports, interdisciplinary rounds, and patient teaching.
  • Practices using current clinical standards.
• Teamwork and Collaboration:
  • Coordinates safe, high-quality patient care and documentation, promoting a respectful and inclusive clinical environment.
  • Demonstrates fiscally responsible teamwork to support recruitment and retention of healthcare team members.
  • Participates in performance improvement, research, and shared governance at all levels.
• Professional Development and Initiative:
  • Completes professional competency assessments, mandatory education, and population-specific training.
  • Serves as a preceptor or mentor for professional nurses, staff, or students to build a qualified workforce.
  • Models professional nursing practice and fosters a healthy work environment.
• Evidence-Based Practice and Research:
  • Promotes evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement.
  • Participates in value analysis for patient care products and upholds system policies and clinical competencies.
  • Engages in data collection, poses clinical questions, and consults appropriate resources to address practice questions.
• Resources and Support:
  • Proactively plans patient care across the continuum while providing direct care.
  • Collaborates with care managers and healthcare teams to develop protocols and best practices (e.g., reducing readmissions, avoidable days, adverse events).
  • Supports efficient use of human and material resources.
• Performs other duties as assigned and complies with WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Requirements

• Education:
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing (required).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (preferred).
• Licenses and Certifications:
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license (single state or multi-state compact).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalent (required within 180 days of hire).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or equivalent (required within 180 days of hire).
• Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct patient care nursing experience.
