Job Summary

Demonstrates clinical competence through utilization of the nursing process and development of a synergistic nurse-patient relationship. Assesses and identifies patient problems/needs, establishes a plan of care, implements and evaluates care provided to patients.

About the Role

Works in a combined telemetry and Progressive Care Unit containing 25 beds. Provides care to complex stroke, vascular, neurological and specialty surgery populations as well as intermediate care patients. Utilizes innovative technology and specialized training to promote caring and healing environments.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a school of Nursing. BSN preferred
  • One (1) year RN experience and/or successful completion of the Backus Hospital Nurse Residency Program
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in this clinical area preferred
  • Current unrestricted license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to pass the dysrhythmia test within 3 months of hire
  • Ability to pass the BKAT with a score of 80% or complete a critical care course within one (1) year of hire
  • Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) or Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) preferred

Skills

Basic knowledge of Nursing principles and practices. Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions. Communicates effectively in order to provide technical or complex information as well as instruction. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with departments, employees, physicians, managers and patients. Ability to handle multiple priorities, be flexible and a team player. Ability to work in a stressful environment. Commitment to customer service. Basic computer knowledge in order to enter/retrieve data. Requires high level of analytical ability in order to gather and interpret information from various sources. Able to take the appropriate action in response to changes, circumstances, problems and/or emergency situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
