Job Overview

Founded in 1917, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway is a trusted acute care community hospital providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical services. The hospital’s Emergency Department treats more than 32,000 patients annually and is designated as a Primary Stroke Center with 24/7 telemedicine support. The Rahway campus is also home to Care Connection, a 24-bed licensed subacute rehabilitation unit owned by Alaris Health, and Kindred Hospital New Jersey – Rahway, a 34-bed long-term acute care hospital that specializes in treating medically complex patients requiring extended, specialized care. Patients benefit from a wide range of therapeutic services including physical, occupational, speech, and hearing therapy, as well as cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs designed to support recovery and long-term wellness.

Qualifications

  • Current PACU or critical care nursing experience with recovery experience
  • Ability to safely care for ventilated patients
  • Ability to admit and discharge ambulatory surgery patients
  • Flexibility to support Same-Day Surgery as operational needs require
  • Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and patient monitoring skills
  • Certifications and Licenses Required:
    • Active New Jersey RN License or Multistate RN License with NJ Endorsement
    • BLS Certification through the American Heart Association
    • ACLS and PALS Certification through the American Heart Association
    • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

Essential Functions

The Registered Nurse (RN) organizes and administers individualized, age-specific nursing care to patients within the assigned unit in support of the overall medical plan of care. The RN practices in accordance with the New Jersey Nurse Practice Act, American Nurses Association Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, Department of Health regulations, and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards. Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintaining a safe and effective environment for patients
  • Monitoring patients during the post-anesthesia recovery phase
  • Providing safe and effective care for complex and ventilated patients
  • Collaborating with anesthesia providers, physicians, and the interdisciplinary care team
  • Participating in patient education and discharge planning
  • Supporting quality improvement and performance initiatives within the unit
  • Ensuring adherence to patient safety, infection prevention, and clinical care standards
