Registered Nurse (RN) - Outpatient Clinics

Pay: $28.25 - $45.21 per hour

About the role

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Outpatient Department will provide and coordinate comprehensive care for acutely ill patients across all age groups. Responsibilities include utilizing the nursing process—assessment, formulation of nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care—while adhering to established standards, policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines. The RN will also supervise nursing staff caring for groups of patients and embody the Memorial Health System Performance Excellence Standards of Safety, Courtesy, Quality, and Efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient’s health status through interview, observation, and physical assessment skills.
• Develop an individualized plan of care with specific goals and target dates in collaboration with the patient, family, provider, and other healthcare team members.
• Implement appropriate interventions identified in the plan of care to move the patient toward established goals or outcomes.
• Systematically evaluate and document patient’s progress toward expected outcomes/ goals on an ongoing basis and modify the plan of care based on patient responses.
• Embody the Memorial Health System Performance Excellence Standards: Safety, Courtesy, Quality, and Efficiency.
• Complete documentation in the patient medical record accurately and in a timely manner.
• Demonstrate technical knowledge and skill to safely utilize patient care equipment.
• Prioritize work based on changes in patient condition, assignments, and unanticipated interruptions.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to organize tasks and activities from patient admission through discharge.
• Delegate tasks and activities to other healthcare team members using appropriate techniques.
• Perform all nursing care activities using techniques to promote safety, reduce risks, and follow policies and procedures.
• Act as an advocate for the patient with families, physicians, and other healthcare team members.
• Adapt teaching strategies based on the patient’s response, readiness to learn, and level of comprehension.
• Implement cultural, age-specific, gender, and developmental factors into patient/family education about health concerns, disease-specific conditions, self-care, and long-term management of chronic conditions.
• Promptly follow up on patient/family requests and concerns.
• Provide care to all age groups as defined by nursing standards on each unit, using age-appropriate communication techniques.
• Perform tactics to support a great patient experience and lead others in patient experience initiatives.
• Perform other related work as required or requested.

Requirements

• Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN preferred.
• Licensed in the State of Illinois.
• Certified in CPR or completes certification within 90 days of employment.
• 2-3 years of experience preferred.

Skills

• Advanced skills in reading, writing, and oral communications.
• Demonstrated knowledge of basic skills of a professional nurse.
• Skills in the use of clinical information systems, basic keyboarding, and computer systems.
