About the role

The Oncology 6 RP Unit is a 36-bed inpatient Intermediate Care Unit dedicated to caring for patients with cancer. Nurses on this unit provide compassionate, specialized care while monitoring patient conditions, administering medications, delivering chemotherapy and other treatments, and supporting patients through complex care needs.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including board-certified and fellowship-trained cancer experts, to support individualized patient care.
  • Provide care in an environment that prioritizes advanced, evidence-based technology and treatments, including innovative radiation therapies, robotic surgery, and HIPEC®.

Requirements

  • No prior RN experience required.
  • New Graduate RNs Are Welcome to Apply.

Qualifications

  • Education Requirements: Degree or diploma in Registered Nursing required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred. Students currently completing an accredited nursing program are encouraged to apply.
  • Certification/Licensure Requirements: Registered Nurse license required. Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire. Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)/Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) or Sentara-approved Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Card required within 6 months of hire.

Skills

This unit welcomes both new graduate nurses and experienced nurses transitioning into oncology or intermediate care. Sentara’s 11-week Transition to Practice program supports the orientation experience with focused knowledge development and hands-on skill acquisition for IMC practice.
