The Perinatal Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse assigned to the Perinatal Services Unit, responsible for the direct delivery of patient care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role cares for ante partum, laboring and delivering, recovering, and post-partum mothers, as well as their newborns. The Perinatal Nurse coordinates care in collaboration with the family, significant others, physicians, and other health care providers, demonstrating a commitment to family-centered care. The role includes initiating, modifying, or stopping treatment according to established protocols, even when a physician is not present. The Perinatal Nurse is cross-trained to provide care in well-baby and continuing care nurseries and is directly accountable to the Perinatal Services Director.
Responsibilities
- Conducts complete assessment for each patient following established guidelines/protocols to ensure comprehensive patient care, demonstrating ability to assess mothers and infants.
- Develops plan of care based on individualized bio-psychosocial needs, incorporating the medical treatment plan and nursing diagnosis.
- Implements the plan of care in accordance with Hi-Desert Medical Center’s standards, policies, procedures, and the Nurse Practice Act.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of nursing and medical interventions, adjusting strategies when expected outcomes are not met.
- Documents care concisely, accurately, and in a timely manner, reflecting the extent of care given and responses to therapies.
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills, communicating appropriate information accurately and timely.
- Utilizes a broad knowledge base to anticipate patient needs and potential care problems, demonstrating appropriate priority setting and decision-making.
- Familiar with and implements all department-specific protocols, procedures, and standards of care.
- Assesses patient learning needs and incorporates educational goals into the plan of care.
- Able to use all department equipment correctly and safely, maintaining a clean and safe environment.
- Assumes responsibility for professional practice, pursuing growth opportunities through seminars, committees, in-services, and department meetings.
- Demonstrates ability to positively influence others’ behavior by serving as a role model and striving to upgrade standards.
- Assumes charge nurse duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s of Science or Associate’s Degree from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current CA RN license.
- CPR certification (required within 30 days of hire).
- ACLS certification (required within 30 days of hire).
- NRP certification (required within 30 days of hire).
- Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring (for experienced L&D RNs).
- Introduction to Fetal Heart Monitoring (required within 90 days of hire for RNs without experience).
- APS (GNOSIS) Personal Proficiency Module and completion of identified areas of weakness within three months of hire.
Preferred Experience
- 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience, including transition of the newborn.

Pay
$47.90 - $72.42 hourly. Individual wages are determined based on qualifications and experience.
Schedule
- Full-time, 12-hour shifts.
- Nights: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM.
- Every other weekend required.
