Full-time night position at Baltimore Detox Center under the direction of the Director of Nursing and Charge Nurses.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s in Nursing
  • 1+ years of experience as an RN in a detox or similar treatment facility environment
  • State RN license in good standing
  • Maintains current CPR certification
  • Detox and Psychiatric Nursing experience required
  • Experienced in administering medication orally, subcutaneously, and IM
  • Ability to recognize signs and symptoms of withdrawal, pain, and critically dangerous medical emergencies and respond appropriately
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Able to respond physically with swiftness to a patient emergency
  • Able to respond calmly and timely during an emergency or potential emergency situation
  • Familiarity with ASAM criteria preferred
  • Familiarity with JCAHO Standards of Care for Behavioral Health
  • Electronic Health Record experience

Responsibilities

  • Guides the patient through their detox process per the physician’s orders
  • Educates the patient about their condition and assists the physician and ARNP by accurately reporting patient conditions and status
  • Performs nursing assessments at intake and necessary discharge nursing actions
  • Completes routine reports needed from clinical for insurance patients
  • Administers prescribed medications as directed by the medical team
  • Makes independent decisions within the scope of their license involving patient care
  • Uses sound judgment in informing the Chief Nursing Officer/Charge Nurse and the Medical Director of all decisions made and communication needs
  • Monitors and records all aspects of patient care through the Electronic Health System, including:
    • Nursing assessments during intake
    • Shift Assessments including CIWA and COWS assessments
    • Changes in patient condition and updates on progress
    • Discharge assessments and paperwork
  • Follows Universal Infection Control Precautions using personal protective equipment as required
  • Ensures direct care staff performs precautions and abides by Infection Control and Exposure policies
  • Reconciles medication at the end of each shift, including maintaining logs of controlled substances distribution in accordance with regulations
  • Ensures proper handoff during shift change to maintain high standards of care for all patients
  • Responsible for the proper administration, reconciliation, storage, and security of all medications
