Registered Nurse RN NICU
Location: Gilbert, Arizona – Banner Gateway Medical Center, Neonatal ICU (Special Care Nursery)
About the Role
The level II Special Care Nursery at Banner Gateway Medical Center is a 16-bed unit with plans to transition to a level IIIA NICU. Our team includes experienced bedside registered nurses, neonatologists, NNPs, respiratory therapists, development specialists, therapists, and IBCLC-certified lactation consultants. As an RN in this unit, you will care for infants needing support in a level II nursery environment, including babies 32 weeks gestation and above, transitioning well-babies, and floating to labor and delivery as a transition nurse. Our department has strong Shared Leadership teams open to staff participation from all aspects of Women and Infant care.
This is a full-time night position (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM) with self-scheduling for three 12-hour shifts per week. Qualified candidates must have prior RN NICU experience.
Responsibilities
- Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
- Review patient history, diagnostics, and laboratory data; report abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
- Formulate, implement, and revise a plan of care based on assessment data and patient/family input, ensuring goals are realistic and measurable.
- Provide direct patient care, coordinate with the healthcare team, and delegate tasks appropriately.
- Promote continuity of care through accurate communication and documentation.
- Evaluate patient and family responses to care and teaching, adjusting the plan as needed.
- Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in compliance with policies.
- Participate in shared leadership, education, mentoring, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Interact with staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to support patient care.
- Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support patient and family needs.
Requirements
- Current, valid RN license in the state of practice (Arizona) or compact RN licensure.
- BLS certification required.
- Prior RN NICU experience required.
- Experience in the clinical area for which you are applying is desired.
- Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of practice.
- For positions in behavioral health settings serving children, an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
- Professional certification in a relevant specialty.
