Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Psychiatric (Med/Psych)

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients with medical and psychiatric conditions and develop individualized care plans
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Monitor patient status, vital signs, and changes in physical and mental health
  • Administer medications, including psychotropic medications, and evaluate treatment effectiveness
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, physicians, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals
  • Provide crisis intervention and behavioral health support when needed
  • Promote a safe therapeutic environment while managing challenging patient behaviors
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
  • Coordinate discharge planning with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary care team
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety programs, and continuing education
  • Advocate for patients to ensure access to appropriate medical and behavioral health services

Requirements

  • Active Illinois RN License
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Current ACLS Certification
  • Current PALS Certification
  • Current CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) Certification
  • Minimum 2–3 years of Medical-Surgical and Psychiatric Nursing experience
  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications and their interactions with medical treatments
  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and patient advocacy skills
  • Ability to work 12-hour day or night shifts

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or current enrollment in a BSN program
  • Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (PMH-BC)
  • Previous experience in Medical Psychiatric, Behavioral Health, or Med/Surg Telemetry settings
