Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical ICU (MICU)
Department: Medical ICU (MICU) – 14-bed unit specializing in the care of critically ill patients with medical diagnoses such as respiratory disease, diabetic complications, renal disease, and other complex conditions.
About the role
Full-time, benefits-eligible position in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at Navicent Health Medical Center. This role involves providing critical care nursing to patients with complex medical conditions, collaborating with the care team, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Engage in unit councils, professional governance, and quality initiatives to improve care processes and apply evidence-based practices.
- Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, diagnose, implement, and evaluate nursing care, engaging patients and families through the continuum of care.
- Monitor patient conditions, adjust care plans, mobilize resources, and collaborate with the care team to influence care outcomes.
- Uphold and promote a culture of safety.
- Continuously evaluate patient, team, and unit outcomes, taking action as needed.
- Administer medications, treatments, and therapies safely and according to clinical protocols and procedures.
- Demonstrate effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution, fostering team collaboration and appropriate delegation.
- Pursue professional development, complete required education, and maintain certifications.
- Adhere to the ANA Code of Ethics, practice ethical decision-making, respect interdisciplinary roles, and contribute to integrated, unbiased patient care.
- Delegate appropriately to other Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and unlicensed assistive personnel (e.g., nurse aides, credentialed medical assistants).
- Maintain accurate, timely EHR documentation.
- Float to other units, departments, care areas, or facilities within the designated service area to meet patient care needs as required.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served, including principles of growth and development over the life span.
Requirements
- Graduate of a Board of Nursing approved nursing education program.
- Active, unrestricted registered nurse (RN) multi-state compact and/or single-state license with privileges to practice in Georgia.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Typically requires 1 year of experience in clinical nursing.
- Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency in time management, prioritization, and problem-solving.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in operating computer functions, including email, electronic records, and digital platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN).
- New critical care nurses will be enrolled in the Critical Care Academy (CCA).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and support up to 35 pounds when handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
- Ability to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
- Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch, with fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures.
- Ability to maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines.
- Ability to perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de-escalation if needed.
- Exposure to chemical and hazardous waste, blood and body fluids, and communicable diseases; protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.
- Ability to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions.
- Physical Abilities Testing may be required.
Schedule
- Full-time, 36 hours per week.
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (12-hour shifts with weekend requirements).
Pay
Pay range: $38.20 - $57.30 per hour. Base compensation is based on factors such as qualifications, skills, relevant experience, and/or training. Premium pay (e.g., shift differential) and incentive pay may apply for select positions. Opportunity for annual increases based on performance.
