About the role

The Burn Center at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (formerly Saint Barnabas Medical Center) is the only state-certified burn treatment facility in New Jersey, and one of the largest in North America. With 12 intensive care beds and an 18-bed step-down unit for less critically injured patients, the Burn Center provides expert care for patients of all ages. We are seeking a compassionate, intensive care Registered Nurse to care for our patients in their time of need.

Responsibilities

• Provides nursing care in the health care system within the scope of practice defined by the Nurse Practice Act and regulatory standards.
• Affirms awareness of ethical standards of practice as defined by the ANA code of ethics.
• Maintains a realization of their own individual level of knowledge and experience and assumes responsibility for advancing knowledge of self and others in the patient care team by communicating with and utilizing resources and programs available.
• Reports identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors.
• Knowledge of the patient population served.
• Supervises and directs the delegation of tasks to appropriate team members and collaborates with other patient care providers.
• Consistently sets and evaluates priorities through appropriate interventions with measurable outcomes toward improvement.
• Participates in patient teaching and discharge planning.
• Participates in unit Performance Improvement evaluation activities.
• Utilizes the nursing process to integrate all aspects of the provision of care and individualizes the plan of care to address a specific patient’s needs.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
• Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or currently matriculating.
• Requires 2 plus years of critical care/intensive care experience as a Registered Nurse.
• Current and active New Jersey RN licensure is required.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS, APLS, or ENPC courses are required. BLS certification (American Heart Association) is required upon hire. PALS/APLS/ENPC upon hire or within 1 year of the start date.
• Must be I.V. certified from an approved facility or complete the requirements for I.V. certification within 90 days of hire to the unit.
• Completion of all orientation requirements of Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center. Successful completion of all Orientation Programs.

Qualifications

• Required certifications and licenses: Active New Jersey Registered Nurse License, American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
• Completion of all orientation requirements of Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center. Successful completion of all Orientation Programs.
