Registered Nurse (RN) - Interventional Radiology

About the Role

Functions under the direction of the Site Manager. The registered nurse is responsible for performing a wide variety of clinical procedures requiring independent judgement, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. The nurse implements the nursing process based on expanded knowledge and experience, providing patient care with an understanding and awareness of age-specific needs. Addresses the biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and patient/family education needs in providing care to the patient and family. The nurse is able to independently perform job functions.

Responsibilities

• Provide pre and post procedure care of patients for invasive, interventional, and surgical procedures
• Use critical thinking skills to deliver patient care in complex, multiple-problem patient care situations
• Prepare and administer contrast, understanding preparation/administration of doses according to patient's weight and physician order
• Administer conscious sedation per system policy and procedure
• Prep the patient for procedure and demonstrate sterile technique
• Demonstrate IV administration competence and maintenance
• Prepare trays and catheters for procedure
• Be flexible with hours to meet department needs, including scheduled and on-call hours if necessary
• Handle communications properly, introduce self to patient and/or guardian, and transport patients as needed
• Provide privacy and comfort for patient/customers
• Assist with maintenance of departmental records, Joint Commission standards, State and Federal Regulations, and Performance Improvement
• Complete necessary paperwork, answer department phone using proper scripting, and perform chart reviews as needed
• Perform QA/QC functions and assist in other Medical Imaging areas and departments system-wide
• Maintain current successful completion of BLS and ACLS
• Understand the Scope of Service for Vascular Institute, VARU, and Medical Imaging
• Assist in in-service/training for other Medical Imaging staff as appropriate
• Review cases with the appropriate physician(s) as needed
• Recognize that total patient care starts when the patient arrives and ends when the physician/patient have the imaging results
• Meet Service Recovery and Customer Service Guidelines as needed
• Coordinate daily schedule of patients
• Maintain and check the crash cart in assigned Medical Imaging areas
• Verify patient ID using two identifiers (armband, DOB, verbal identification)
• Verify the front of the patient chart for same/similar name sticker and written order, seeking clarification if unclear
• Understand and comply with verbal order RBAC and perform necessary follow-up with written order
• Use and understand preprocedural verification/time-out form when appropriate
• Provide patient, family/support system education and post-procedural home care instructions as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct

Requirements

• Associate's degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing (required)
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (preferred)
• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience in either ICU, CCU, ED, or IMCU
• Minimum 1 year of peri-operative nursing experience
• Current RN license (Single State or Multi-state Compact)
• BLS certification (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) within 180 days of hire
• Current NIHSS certification within 30 days of hire
• Ability to communicate and understand verbal and written English language
• Positive attitude

Schedule

Full-time, 4x10's (7:00 AM - 5:30 PM) plus call.
