Registered Nurse (RN) - General, Vascular & Thoracic Inpatient, Rotating

Are you looking for a nursing opportunity where you can use and develop your critical thinking skills while caring for interesting and complex surgical patients? Then welcome to our unit! We are a 3-bed Adult Progressive Care Unit attached to a 32-bed medical-surgical unit.

About the role

L4WD Inpatient Surgery is a collaborative unit that cares for complex surgical patients. Home to thoracic, vascular, kidney transplant, and general surgery patients (typically either laparoscopic or major abdominal procedures), the population is diverse and challenging. Our nurse-to-patient ratios are very attractive, and Licensed Nursing Assistants are also part of our collaborative team.

As a member of the L4WD team, you will assess, plan, organize, provide, and evaluate nursing care utilizing the nursing process. You will make nursing judgments and decisions and be responsible for nursing care and documentation. We use a shared (team/self) scheduling model to coordinate schedules, which include 12-hour shifts.

Responsibilities

• Utilize the nursing process to assess, diagnose, identify outcomes, plan, implement, and evaluate an individualized plan of care.
• Utilize critical thinking and the nursing process to anticipate and recognize changes in patient status, taking action to modify the plan of care or elevate to the care team as necessary.
• Practice in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics to advocate for patients, uphold their autonomy in decision-making, ensure informed consent, and assist patients and families in expressing self-determination.
• Actively seek feedback and act to improve performance.
• Engage in the governance of practice.
• Manage interpersonal relationships for self and with others.
• Mentor colleagues for the advancement of nursing practice and the profession.
• Assume authority and accountability for the nursing care of patients while appropriately delegating elements of care to other members of the care delivery team in accordance with laws, regulations, and policies and procedures.
• Prioritize and organize time to optimize patient outcomes.
• Actively seek out the most current evidence and standards and apply and translate them to daily practice.
• Role model a culture of inquiry, developing new knowledge by contributing to research, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice at the local level.
• Communicate effectively in a variety of formats in all areas of practice.
• Actively partner with others to effect change that produces positive outcomes through the exchange of knowledge.
• Precept the student nurse, nurse extern, nurse resident, experienced clinical nurse, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required.
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Licensed RN with NH eligibility.
• BLS certification.

Schedule

Full or part-time schedules are available depending on candidate preference. Schedules include 12-hour shifts using a shared (team/self) scheduling model.
