Responsibilities
- Utilizes strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status
- Determines the priority of the patient’s problems and needs
- Implements clinical nursing interventions to acute, critical patients that require intensive medical care
- Develops and performs patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes
- Ensures a safe and therapeutic environment
- Collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team
- Conducts initial and ongoing patient assessment
- Observes the surgery and surgical team from a broad perspective and assists the team to create and maintain a safe and comfortable environment for the patient
- Manages the nursing care of the patient within the OR and coordinates the needs of the surgical team with other care providers
- Provides pre-op, intra-op, and post-op care, including assessment and discharge instructions
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Associates degree or Bachelors degree in Nursing
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
- BLS Basic Life Support, ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support or PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support (preferred at hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care; ACLS and/or PALS may be required within 6 months based on specific surgical department requirements)
- CNOR Certified Perioperative Nurse (preferred, not required)
- SGNA Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (preferred, not required)
- Two years of RN experience in Critical Care Department (preferred, not required)
- Completion of OR internship program (preferred, not required)
- Successful completion of Peri-op 101 (preferred, not required)
Qualifications
- Education: Graduates of an accredited Associates degree or Bachelors degree in Nursing
- Experience: Two years of RN experience in Critical Care Department (preferred, not required)
- Training: Successful completion of Peri-op 101 (preferred, not required)
Skills
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Ability to assess patient status and determine priorities
- Knowledge of clinical nursing interventions and patient care plans
- Experience in operating room settings
- Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams
- Proficiency in conducting initial and ongoing patient assessments
- Experience observing surgeries and assisting surgical teams
- Experience providing pre-op, intra-op, and post-op care
