Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Dept - Days

About the role

Community Memorial Hospital (CMH) ED is a 16-bed unit, including two trauma bays, in the heart of South Central Virginia serving residents of over 7 counties, including North Carolina. CMH is certified as a Primary Stroke Center and treats a diverse population from newborns to geriatrics. The ED census continues to grow each year and is predicted to hit 26,000 patients by the end of the fiscal year in June. This fast-paced environment provides excellent experience in treating all types of patients from urgent care to critical patients, such as trauma, stroke, sepsis, and STEMI. The community setting creates a family and patient-centered atmosphere with outstanding teamwork throughout the entire organization. Nursing leadership supports continuing education and provides multiple opportunities to advance knowledge and skills. CMH is currently expanding their core team to meet the needs of their growing census.

Schedule

• Three 12-hour shifts weekly, 7:00 am – 7:30 pm
• Every other weekend required
• Clinicians work all three shifts, weekends, and holidays; individual shift rotation and schedules established with your Nurse Manager/Practice Manager and may be adjusted as necessary

Responsibilities

Clinical Nurse I:

• Integrate technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet the needs of the patient and family
• Assist the health care team with prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort
• Provide direction, education, and begin to acquire leadership skills at the unit level
• Deliver and accurately document direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care
• Safely administer prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions

Clinical Nurse II:

• Demonstrate mastery of clinical skills and begin to apply this knowledge to a specific patient population
• Assist the health care team with prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort
• Recognize changes in patient situations and intervene appropriately
• Mobilize resources to meet the individualized needs of patients/families
• Provide direction, education, and assume leadership responsibilities at the unit level
• Deliver and accurately document direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care
• Safely administer prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions

Clinical Nurse III:

• Demonstrate clinical knowledge at the unit level and begin to apply this knowledge to a specific patient population
• Assist the health care team with prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort
• Anticipate changes in patient situations and intervene appropriately
• Provide direction, education, and serve as a role model in a clinical setting
• Deliver and accurately document direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care
• Safely administer prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions

Requirements

Licensure/Certification (for all levels):

• Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state (required for hire and continued employment)
• AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent (required for continued employment)

Experience Required:

• Clinical Nurse I: None
• Clinical Nurse II: 12 to 24 months RN experience
• Clinical Nurse III: 3 years of clinical experience

Experience Preferred:

• Clinical Nurse I: Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant or care partner in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice
• Clinical Nurse II & III: Academic Health Care Experience; Experience with similar patient population in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice

Education Required (all levels):

• Diploma or Associate's Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the corresponding state's Board of Nursing
• All RNs without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) must enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of start date and complete the program within five years of start date unless grandfathered under previous requirements

Education Preferred (all levels):

• Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited program
• Clinical Nurse III: Certification in specialty area

Pay

• Clinical Nurse I: $34.00 – $49.50
• Clinical Nurse II: $34.65 – $51.97
• Clinical Nurse III: $36.38 – $54.58
