About the role

The dialysis registered nurse at Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital Fort Smith works with nephrology medical practitioners to provide high-quality care to patients in need of dialysis-related therapy. This position involves collaborating closely with medical practitioners, dieticians, social workers, and vascular access departments to meet dialysis patient care needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide HD dialysis to ESRD and AKI patients using Tablo machine
  • Oversee patient during dialysis treatment
  • Monitor lab work and report changes to physician
  • Absorb time for physician to see patient via tele-cart
  • Clean and disinfect machines
  • Complete daily dialysis audit

Essential Functions

  • Perform appropriate patient assessments, evaluations, ongoing monitoring, and nursing interventions in accordance with organizational policies and procedures
  • Assist in preparing dialysis treatment areas with needed supplies prior to starting treatments and demonstrate knowledge of nursing procedures and nursing care as it relates to renal replacement therapy
  • Ensure dialysis machines and equipment are maintained in good working order per policy
  • Provide patient and family teaching as it pertains to the treatment plan, procedures, and preventative measures throughout the rehabilitation to stay and prior to discharge

Qualifications

  • Current state RN license
  • Associate's degree from an accredited nursing school
  • Graduate of an approved Bachelor or Associate school of nursing
  • At least 2 years of current experience in the specialty
  • Current BLS certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred
  • Ability to safely operate dialysis machines

Schedule

PRN Status: Nurse will be used on days primarily when HD nurse is on vacation, sick, or in case of an emergency. Most days will be scheduled. The nurse will be aware of what days will be needed to be covered in advance. However, sickness and emergencies do arise, and the nurse would need to be available in those unscheduled events.

What We're Looking For

Applicants should have a current state RN license and possess an associate's degree from an accredited nursing school. Additional requirements include: graduate of an approved Bachelor or Associate school of nursing and a current state license to practice nursing, at least 2 years of current experience in the specialty, current BLS certification, and advanced cardiac life support preferred. Must be able to safely operate dialysis machines.
