About the role
Oceans Behavioral Hospital Abilene is dedicated to helping individuals manage mental health issues through a variety of inpatient and outpatient psychiatric counseling and treatment options. The Registered Nurse plays a crucial role in milieu management and patient care.
Responsibilities
- Assumes primary leadership for milieu management and directs patient care activities.
- Maintains standards of professional nursing practice and implements interventions based on the nursing process.
- Affirms age/disability-specific information and responds appropriately to the client population.
- Administers medications safely, provides education on prescribed medications, and monitors for adverse reactions.
- Reviews, revises, and updates medical records accurately and promptly.
- Transcribes and implements physician's orders, documenting care and progress in the medical record.
- Communicates with staff to ensure continuity of care and delegates tasks effectively.
- Adapts to a high-stress environment, assesses potential for patient escalation, and communicates with staff about incomplete assignments and current client needs.
- Utilizes nursing knowledge to enhance evidence-based practice and float among various clinical services.
Requirements
- Current, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of employment.
- Minimum of an Associate Degree in Nursing, with one year of inpatient hospital experience preferred.
- Ability to adapt to a high-stress environment, assess potential for patient escalation, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Understands and demonstrates critical thinking abilities, self-confidence, and the ability to lead and direct others.
- Successfully completes CPR certification and an Oceans-approved behavioral health de-escalation program.
