Registered Nurse, RN - CVOR, Cardiovascular Operating Room

About the Role

Join Tufts Medical Center’s Cardiovascular Operating Room team, delivering care to Boston’s most complex cardiac cases. Perform procedures that set the regional standard for innovation and excellence, including heart transplants, complex valve repairs, and aortic repairs. Since 2000, our program has completed more adult heart transplants than any other hospital in New England—657 and counting—including a record-breaking 70 adult heart transplants in 2024.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in partnership with patients and families, using theoretical and evidence-based knowledge.
• Develop individualized, outcomes-based care plans incorporating cultural needs, readiness, and barriers to learning.
• Coordinate interdisciplinary care, including patient/family meetings and discharge planning.
• Implement the plan of care safely and document all aspects, including treatments, procedures, and patient responses.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of care strategies and update the plan as needed.
• Perform procedures and treatments using nursing knowledge and judgment, adhering to unit and professional standards.
• Administer medications safely and assess patient responses, utilizing pharmacology knowledge.
• Maintain clinical competency with technology and equipment.
• Advocate for and educate patients and families to maintain optimal health.
• Participate in quality and safety initiatives, data collection, and performance improvement activities.
• Collaborate with nursing colleagues and other disciplines to ensure effective care delivery.
• Delegate responsibilities appropriately based on roles, knowledge, and capabilities.
• Promote a culture of service excellence, respect, and professionalism.
• Engage in professional development, lifelong learning, and leadership at the bedside.
• Assume charge nurse functions in collaboration with unit leadership when needed.
• Facilitate communication through active participation in staff meetings, emails, and professional conduct.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS) relevant to the department may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Specialty nursing certifications.

Schedule

40 hours per week, evening shift.
