Position Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Promote and maintain a safe, therapeutic, and recovery-oriented environment in accordance with ODMHSAS standards and agency policy.
- Perform initial, ongoing, and comprehensive nursing assessments of clients’ physical and mental health status.
- Administer, monitor, and manage medications and prescribed medical treatments in compliance with OBN regulations, prescriber orders, and agency medication administration and risk-management policies.
- Monitor for, evaluate, and document psychotropic medication effectiveness, adverse reactions, contraindications, and side effects, and report concerns to the prescriber per policy.
- Maintain responsibility for pharmaceutical and medical supply inventory, ensuring proper storage, security, expiration monitoring, and regulatory compliance.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation consistent with ODMHSAS, OBN, and agency documentation standards.
- Coordinate consumer transfers to a higher level of care in accordance with Crisis Care Center clinical pathways under the direction of the prescriber.
- Implement and support behavior management interventions within program guidelines, individualized treatment plans, and agency policy.
- Ensure compliance with psychopharmacologic and medical treatment policies and communicate recommendations for policy revision through appropriate leadership channels.
- Evaluate and chart psychotropic medication effectiveness, complications and side effects.
- Ensure that all nursing staff and mental health techs comply with written policies and procedures as established by FCSE.
- Serve as charge nurse when assigned.
Qualifications
- EDUCATION: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) Preferred
- Experience: Preferred 1 year of work experience in an inpatient or outpatient psychiatric setting.

- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of psychiatric and medical nursing practices applicable to individuals experiencing acute mental health and/or substance use crises, demonstrated ability to establish and maintain therapeutic, professional relationships with individuals with serious mental illness, while respecting consumer rights, autonomy, and treatment preferences, knowledge of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders and ability to apply evidence-based, clinically appropriate nursing interventions, proficiency in trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and person-centered care models, consistent with ODMHSAS standards, skill in clinical judgment, prioritization, and decision-making during high acuity, rapidly changing clinical situations.
