Registered Nurse (RN) Certified Lactation Consultant
About the role
Provides breast-feeding education and consultation to prospective and actual patients of the Baptist Health System in the inpatient and outpatient environment. Provides staff development guidance to assist staff providing assistance to breast-feeding mothers in hospital environment. Monitors, evaluates and revises breast feeding patient education program to ensure compliance with established national standards for such education. Mentors and evaluates instructors providing breast-feeding education. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Provide breast-feeding education and consultation to patients in inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Guide staff development to assist with breast-feeding support in the hospital environment.
- Monitor, evaluate, and revise breast-feeding patient education programs to ensure compliance with national standards.
- Mentor and evaluate instructors providing breast-feeding education.
- Complete established competencies for the position within the designated introductory period.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing (minimum education).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (preferred).
- 2 years of clinical nursing practice with demonstrated competency in area of expertise (minimum experience).
- 2 years of adult teaching experience (preferred).
- Experience in providing lactation consulting (preferred).
- Current Texas State License for Registered Nurse (required).
- Certificate in lactation consulting through a national certifying organization (required within one year of employment).
- Active healthcare provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification on hire (ARC or AHA); must obtain AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire (required).
