Registered Nurse RN Cath Lab

Our cardiac catheterization lab is a high acuity cath lab specializing in percutaneous interventional procedures of the heart, including angioplasty, stent placement, rotoblators, peripheral studies, interventions, and structural heart repairs. Banner Thunderbird Medical Center has a robust Structural Heart program performing procedures such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement and left atrial appendage closures.
Our Cath lab team consists of highly skilled professionals, including special procedure technicians, registered nurses, and interventional cardiologists. The RN is an integral part of the team, responsible for scrubbing, circulating, monitoring, and documenting cases. Under the physician's direction, the RN manages procedural sedation and ensures patient safety during procedures.
About the Role
This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing practice standards. The role utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to assess data and plan, provide, and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients.
Responsibilities
- Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
- Review patient history and physical with patient/family, ensuring completion within appropriate timeframes.
- Review diagnostics and laboratory data, reporting abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
- Complete assessment and reassessments according to patient needs and policy.
- Formulate a plan of care, including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and input from patients, families, and the health team.
- Initiate a realistic, measurable plan of care in conjunction with the patient/family, considering physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to review and revise the plan of care based on changing patient needs.
- Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of health care team activities.
- Provide care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, complying with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Delegate appropriately and supervise the provision of care by other licensed nurses and personnel.
- Promote continuity of care through accurate and complete communication with other caregivers.
- Evaluate patient and family responses to care and teaching, revising the plan of care as needed.
- Evaluate patient progress toward goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with the health care team.
- Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record, ensuring legibility, timeliness, and compliance with policy.
- Provide care based on the best evidence available and participate in research activities within clinical practice.
- Participate in unit or facility shared leadership, education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.
- Contribute to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care.
- Interact with staff across departments, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to report or clarify information.
- Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to health status changes.
Requirements
- Current, valid RN license in the state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for the current state of practice.
- BLS certification is required; additional certification or continuing education may be required based on the area of practice.
- Experience in the clinical area for which you are applying is desired.
- Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of work, demonstrated through annual validations.
- For Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions: minimum of one year of experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area.
- For Home Health settings: ability to operate a personal vehicle with a valid driver's license and active auto insurance coverage.
- For Behavioral Health clinical settings serving children: possession of an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintained throughout employment.
- For BUMCS Behavioral Health clinical settings: possession of an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintained throughout employment.
- For Banner Home Care AZ: possession of an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintained throughout employment.
- For Banner Staffing (BSS) Behavioral Health roles in Arizona: possession of a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintained throughout employment.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of Cath Lab experience or other critical care areas (clearly reflected in your resume).
- BLS and ACLS certifications (uploaded to your application).
- Live within 30 minutes of the facility due to call requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Professional certification preferred.
Schedule
3 x 12-hour shifts (6:30 AM - 7:00 PM).
Benefits
Sign-on bonuses starting at $15,000 for Cath Lab experienced RNs.
