The Role Acute General Medicine encompasses seven inpatient units: 3 East, 3 Central, 3 West, 3 North, 4 North, 4 Central, and 6 Central. While each unit has unique characteristics and patient populations, all share a commitment to outstanding patient care, teamwork, and professional nursing practice.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to adult medicine patients
  • Perform ongoing patient assessments and identify changes in clinical condition
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, hospitalists, pharmacists, therapists, case managers, and other interdisciplinary team members
  • Manage patients with complex diagnoses and multiple comorbidities
  • Coordinate care plans and support safe patient transitions
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans and recovery goals
  • Participate in shared governance, practice councils, quality initiatives, and nursing committees
  • Utilize advanced clinical technologies including Epic EMR, Pyxis medication systems, and Alaris infusion pumps
  • Serve as a preceptor, mentor, charge nurse, or pursue future leadership opportunities

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire
  • 1 year of relevant experience
  • Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required

Physical demands

  • Requires standing for prolonged periods, frequent traveling, bending/stooping
  • Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 20–50 lbs
  • May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease

Pay

The pay range for this role is $39.90 – $53.00 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate’s qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
