Responsibilities

  • Practices in a primary care setting much like a clinic or transitional care unit.
  • Uses a full range of nursing skills along with broad knowledge of disease processes.
  • Works closely with other health care providers, including primary care physicians and mid-level practitioners.
  • Safeguards and ensures individuals receive needed health care in a manner that does not compromise nor conflict with security issues within the correctional facility.
  • Aids in the provision of individual health care.
  • Aids in the medication process.
  • Assists with other functions as delegated by the charge nurse/supervisor.
  • Maintains a system for accurate and thorough medical record keeping.
  • Provides health education.
  • Maintains adequate inventory and security of medical supplies and equipment.

Requirements

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Minnesota that is current, active, and without restrictions, limitations, or conditions.
  • Experience as an RN Senior with the State of Minnesota.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN).
  • Hands-on clinical nursing experience providing direct patient care in a hospital, long-term care and/or clinic setting.
  • Nursing experience in a correctional or secured setting.
  • Experience working in a correctional or secured setting.
  • Nursing experience in a specialized clinical area(s), such as in gender-specific, geriatric, juvenile health care, medical/surgery unit, and/or behavioral health.
  • Effective communication skills sufficient to provide information in an accurate, concise and timely manner, protect confidentiality, and participate in problem-solving activities of the health care team.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to multi-task.

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications for Registered Nurse: Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Minnesota that is current, active, and without restrictions, limitations, or conditions.
  • Preferred qualifications for Registered Nurse Senior: Experience as an RN Senior with the State of Minnesota, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN), hands-on clinical nursing experience, nursing experience in a correctional or secured setting, experience working in a correctional or secured setting, nursing experience in a specialized clinical area(s), effective communication skills, strong critical thinking skills, and hands-on clinical nursing experience.

  • Registered Nurse: $40.59 - $60.06 / hourly; $84,751 - $125,405 / annually.
  • Registered Nurse Senior: $42.20 - $62.48 / hourly; $88,113 - $130,458 / annually.
