About the role

We are seeking a Recovery Room Nurse (RN) to join our growing team at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. You will be part of a close-knit, highly collaborative perioperative team assisting with Orthopedics, Podiatry, Gastroenterology, and General Surgeries. The Recovery Room RN is an essential member of the perioperative team, advocating for patients under anesthesia and/or sedation.

Hours: 12-hour shifts

Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for all patients within the PACU scope of services.
  • Coordinate post-operative care of the patient with the surgeon and anesthesiologist.
  • Direct and guide other personnel while maintaining standards of care in the PACU.
  • Communicate with the physician about changes in the patient's clinical condition, including hemodynamic monitoring, results of diagnostic studies, and abnormal results or symptomatology.
  • Collaborate with other departments and co-workers to provide quality patient care across the continuum, efficient patient flow, and unit maintenance and organization.
  • Adhere to regulations, standards, and hospital or unit policies and procedures.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement activities, unit meetings, and in-services.
  • Act as a resource for other personnel as appropriate.

If you have experience as a Circulating Nurse, Operating Room Nurse, or Surgical Nurse, you are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Current and valid state RN License.
  • Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
  • ACLS (AHA) certificate within 30 days of hire and maintain current.
  • Previous Critical Care or PACU experience or minimum of one year on-the-job training.
  • Critical Care RN (CCRN) certification preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
