Responsibilities

• Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA.
• Describe the underlying pathophysiology of commonly encountered disease processes and the physiology associated with various anesthesia techniques and surgical or procedural interventions.
• Develop an individualized perianesthesia plan of care by:
  • Communicating the patient’s current status throughout the perianesthesia continuum of care.
  • Evaluating the patient’s past medical history and surgical plan using PAT anesthesia protocols.
  • Interviewing pre-operative patients to gather necessary data for admission.
  • Reviewing all preoperative test results and notifying physicians when results are outside normal limits or incomplete.
  • Serving as the initial and primary contact for referral sources to direct screening and clearance of patients.
  • Educating patients on medications and which to take on the day of surgery.
• Demonstrate safe operation of equipment and report unsafe situations; act as the patient’s advocate.
• Handle specimens according to facility policy and adhere to standard precautions, including the use of personal protective equipment.
• Administer medications safely using the 8-rights of medication administration.
• Perform interventions to maintain wound integrity and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels.
• Provide nursing and monitoring in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Manage patient co-morbid conditions and protect them from infection.
• Assess and educate patients or support persons on expected responses, pain management, wound care, and rehabilitation.
• Involve patients or support persons in decisions about their perioperative plan of care.
• Protect patient rights, dignity, and privacy while providing age-specific, culturally competent, and ethical care.
• Comply with Universal Protocol, facility site validation, and time-out policies.
• Evaluate patient progress toward outcomes and provide accurate hand-off reports.
• Delegate tasks according to state Nurse Practice Act and job descriptions.
• Document care completely, accurately, and legibly.
• Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration with the perioperative team and stakeholders.
• Participate in multidisciplinary care planning, quality reviews, and performance improvement projects.
• Engage in the performance appraisal process and pursue professional growth.
• Maintain required competencies and use problem-solving skills to foster effective work relationships.
• Act as a patient advocate, maintain privacy and confidentiality, and comply with SCA and facility policies.
• Participate in team meetings, trainings, and daily safety huddles.
• Demonstrate fiscal responsibility and perform all other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.
• One year of pre-op, PACU, and/or medical/surgical nursing experience required.
• Current state licensure to practice in good standing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification within 90 days of employment (or current certification).
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within 90 days of employment (or current certification).
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within 90 days if pediatric care is within the facility’s scope of services (or current certification).
• Specialty certification in Perioperative or Perianesthesia Nursing preferred.

Pay

USD $38.00–$54.00 per hour.
