Registered Nurse - Post Anesthesia Care Unit

About the role

This position involves direct care in the peri-operative setting, including preparation for surgery, phase I and II recovery of surgical patients, and rotations to interventional radiology for procedural sedation.

Responsibilities

• Performs patient assessment, moderate sedation, and hemodynamic monitoring of IR procedural patients.
• Maintains and documents patient data intra- and post-procedurally.
• Reports abnormalities to IR providers.
• Performs clinical assessment of the patient and recognizes contraindications for anesthesia and surgical intervention.
• Applies appropriate post-sedation scoring and assesses postoperative status.
• Provides tailored instructions and written materials to patients.
• Mentors and serves as a resource for newcomers, students, and volunteers.
• Monitors and assesses patient data during pre-surgical assessment and recovery phases.
• Administers medications, including ACLS medications and anticoagulants, following safety protocols.
• Conducts quality control procedures on equipment.
• Fulfills infection control and safety practices.
• Maintains patients' physiological systems to baseline or above.
• Ensures patients meet minimum Aldrete standards before discharge or transfer.
• Maintains a clean environment.
• Orders and maintains adequate supply inventory.
• Participates in policy and procedure formation, adhering to The Joint Commission requirements.
• Supports and enhances the organization's core values.
• Initiates process improvements when needed.

Requirements

• Basic English language proficiency.
• Graduate of an approved school of professional nursing.
• Current full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse.
• Recent surgical and/or acute care experience within the last 10 years.
• Critical care experience within the last 10 years (minimum 3 years).
• Moderate sedation experience within the last 10 years.
• American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) or Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia (CAPA) certification preferred.

Qualifications

• Basic education requirements met.
• Current full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse.
• Recent surgical and/or acute care experience within the last 10 years.
• Critical care experience within the last 10 years (minimum 3 years).
• Moderate sedation experience within the last 10 years.
• American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) or Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia (CAPA) certification preferred.
