About the role
MEDIKO is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to provide direct patient care at Piedmont Regional Jail. The ideal candidate is a clinically skilled nursing professional who thrives in a structured environment and is committed to improving the health and well-being of underserved populations.

Responsibilities
- Conduct intake screenings, health assessments, and ongoing patient evaluations
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized patient care plans
- Administer medications, treatments, and medical interventions as prescribed
- Provide care and monitoring for patients with acute illnesses, chronic conditions, and behavioral health needs
- Respond to sick calls, medical emergencies, and urgent healthcare situations
- Accurately document patient assessments, treatments, and outcomes within the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Collaborate with physicians, mental health professionals, and facility staff to coordinate patient care
- Educate patients on disease prevention, treatment plans, and health management strategies
- Ensure compliance with nursing standards, facility policies, and healthcare regulations
- Support quality improvement initiatives and maintain a safe, organized healthcare environment
- Assist in mentoring and guiding nursing staff while promoting best clinical practices
Requirements
- Current, active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia (or compact state)
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred
- 1–3 years of nursing experience preferred
- Experience in correctional healthcare, behavioral health, emergency services, hospital, long-term care, or other clinical settings preferred
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, documentation, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Current CPR/BLS certification required (American Heart Association or American Red Cross approved)
